Upper Tumble Public Cemetery – Overview and applications for burial

The Council continues to receive plaudits for the standard of appearance and maintenance of the Cemetery and the Council takes the management of the cemetery (including health and safety) very seriously. Reduced internment fees for local residents are now in place in order to ensure that there is fair play for our local rate payers and next of KIN. Please click on the links below for an application form for burial at the Upper Tumble Public Cemetery or alternatively contact the Clerk to the Council.

Landscaping Strategy 2007

The commissioning of a landscaping consultant by the Council has resulted in the production of a landscape enhancement strategy for the Upper Tumble Public Cemetery. The Council has delivered the first stages of the strategy in terms of installing a new shelter at the Cemetery which will house persons at the cemetery during adverse weather conditions. Pride in our Cemetery Project 2009-2011

During recent years a series of issues have emerged that have resulted in the need for the adoption of a long term management strategy for the Cemetery. These issues include:

  • The need to extend the Garden or Remembrance (cremated remains section) due to the fact that capacity will be reached within 5 years.
  • Drainage issues – general surface water issues in the Cemetery
  • Landscaping works and boundary treatments
  • Disability access
  • Topographical challenges
  • Introduction of attractive frontage onto the main road

The Council’s Finance Committee resolved in September 2008 to approve the Pride in Our Cemetery Project as the priority capital project for the Council for 2009-2011. The Council is therefore committed to the delivery of this project and as such finance is already being set aside and a capital programme is being formulated. Cemetery Development and Management Services have now been appointed by the Council to oversee the development of this £100,000 scheme. You can view some of the emerging designs here:
